No activities of pair trawling in Ghana- Fisheries Minister

The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Sherry Ayittey says there is no practice of pair trawling in the country.

She says, following the ban of the practice in 2008, the ministry has taken steps to enforce it.

She said the Fisheries Regulations, a vessel monitoring system at Tema and regular patrols by the Navy and Marine Police are some of the interventions being employed to enforce the ban.

Madam Ayittey said this in Parliament as she answered a question by the MP for Effutu, Alex Afenyo- Markin on steps being taken to halt pair trawling in Ghana.

A Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Alhassan Yakubu also briefed Parliament on the rehabilitation of silos belonging to the defunct food distribution company.

He said the National Food Buffer Stock Company plans a re development of all such facilities through a public private partnership.
